5 Essential Media Kit Elements + Sample
Media kits are essential, and sometimes overlooked, components of brand and event publicity.
The purpose of a well-crafted media kit is straightforward: Make the content journalists need to write about you/attend your event/cover an issue as readily accessible as possible.
Every media kit should contain:
Basic facts about your organization (story, history, etc.) or event (date, location, time, how to RSVP, etc.)
Multimedia resources (links to folders to download images, embeddable videos, etc.)
Quotes, facts, and other information that will enrich their coverage (or pique interest)
Contact information for a primary PR rep or another high-level spokesperson
The “Why” - a clear indication as to what makes your information worthy of coverage
Below is a media kit I developed and designed on behalf of Foster Our Future 2020, an expo and discussion forum hosted by the Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research (FFAR).
Using the expo’s brand elements, I assembled a press kit to inform and entice FFAR’s press contacts. Typically, I would have organized it a bit differently, but they had the honor of hosting former Vice President Al Gore as their keynote speaker, and his presence was important to highlight early on (also a nod to the age old “inverted pyramid” of news writing).
